Frank Marotta Sr., who along with his late brother, Dominick "Don" Marotta, built and owned Sports Creek Raceway and Muskegon Racecourse in Michigan and was a developer and partner of Hoosier Park in Indiana, died Wednesday, Dec. 2 He was 85.
Mr. Marotta is survived by his children, Chuck (Martha), Toniann (Jack) Miesel, Frank (Teresa), Don (Kate Beagle) and Tom (Nancy); grandchildren, Frank, Donald, Robert, Sandra, Alyssa, Ashlynn, Ryan, Corey, Shelby and Benjamin; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at St. Patrick Church, 9086 Hutchins Rd., White Lake, Mich. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5-9 p.m. and Friday from 1-8 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. at the Union Lake Chapel of the Elton Black & Son Funeral Home, 1233 Union Lake Rd., White Lake. Mr. Marotta will lie in state at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in Richardson Cemetery under the auspices of the United States Army.
