Nice Dream trotted to the lead at the quarter-mile pole and drew off to a 12-length victory in 1:58.1 to capture the $50,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes Green Acres final for 3-year-old colts and geldings Friday at Freehold Raceway.
In the $50,000 NJSS Green Acres final for 3-year-old trotting fillies, Ringside Lauryn benefited from a break in the stretch by Jeansandatshirt to win in 1:59.2.
Nice Dream (Dream Vacation) dominated the Green Acres series for sophomore trotters with three victories in preliminary legs. It was his sixth win in 17 starts this year and his 11th in 27 career races. Finishing a distant second was Numismatic (Revenue), while Traveling Tune (Windsong’s Legacy) was third.
The $25,000 winner’s share of the purse boosted Nice Dream’s 2009 earnings to $65,030 and put him over the $100,000 mark for his career at $111,553. im Morand, who co-owns the gelding with Nanticoke Racing Inc., drove Nice Dream. Les Givens was the winning trainer.
Ringside Lauryn (Dream Vacation), trained and driven by Leah Vandervort, won by a length and a half over Ashlee’s Dream (Dream Vacation), as One Tough Girl (Muscles Yankee) finished third.
It was the third victory and second in NJSS Green Acres competition for Ringside Lauryn, increasing her purse earnings to $51,873 this year for owners Virginia Vandervort and Robert Harper, who bred her. (NJSS)
