The 6-year-old Workaholic-sired mare Premiere Steed trotted to a 1:52 record for a mile over the fast five-eighths mile Mikkeli track in Finland, on Sunday. With French driving ace Jean-Michel Bazire in the sulky, the mare was tucked in the pocket until 300 meters were left to race and then rallied to defeat Paradis Cordiere in the St. Michel feature. Fama Currit set a blazing early pace but couldn’t sustain her effort.
Fabrice Souloy trains Premiere Steed. Workaholic, who won the inaugural Breeders Crown at The Red Mile in 1984, is one of the few American-pedigreed stallions to stand at stud in France. He was imported by the French National Stud during a period of times when the rules allowed pure American imports.
