Five divisions of freshman colt pacers lined up behind the gate Tuesday, July 22 at Indiana Downs in the first round of Indiana Sires Stakes competition. The favorites claimed victory in each of the $15,000 contests, with defending leading driver Trace Tetrick collecting two trips to the winner’s circle.

Hawk’s Copperstone scored a 1:57 victory in the first division, winning by three and one-half lengths for Don Irvine Jr. The Allamerican Theory colt, a brother to multiple ISS finals winner EJs Copperstone, paced a :28.1 final panel in the win. The freshman is trained by Steve Gray for owners and breeders L J Stone and Phillip Hawk. Townline Dreamer (Dream Work) finished second and Mojo Theory (Allamerican Theory) was third.

In the fastest of the five divisions, Neil Coleman guided Star City Hero to a 1:54.1 clocking and a five and one-quarter length victory. The Western Hero gelding is trained by Charles Von Knoblauch, who co-owns the two year old with breeder Victoria Rouch. Got ‘Er Done (Storm Damage) was a distant second and Up Town Watts (Kilowatt) rounded out the trifecta.

Suprizemeagain got away last in the field of nine that comprised the third $15,000 division Tuesday but came on strong in the stretch to win by four and one-quarter lengths. Driven by Tetrick, the Western Hero colt closed in :28 to stop the timer in 1:56.2. Trained by Shawn Nessa, Suprizemeagain is owned by Angie Nessa, Bart Seales and PBV Me ASAP Horse Stable. Razzling Rambo, a colt by Kilowatt, was second and Mattnamaras Band colt Matts Image finished third.

Lalydama Bluegrass and driver Dan Shetler stopped the clock in 1:55.3 to triumph in the fourth division. The Dorunrun Bluegrass colt finished half a length in front of Rob V (Electric Yankee) while Indy’s Z Tam (Dontgetinmyway) finished three and three-quarter lengths back in third. Lalydama Bluegrass was bred and is owned by Dr. Luel Overstreet and trained by John Merkel.

Tetrick annexed his second ISS contest in the final division, driving Mystical Valentine to a 1:57 score. The gelded son of Dream Work, trained by Erv Miller for Mystical Marker Farms, won by half a length. F Train (Mark Johnathan) took the runner-up spot, two lengths in front of Electric Tom Boy (Electric Yankee).
