Freshman colts compete in Incredible Finale splits

On a blustery and snowy Wednesday night a total of 17 two-year-old colt pacers braved the adverse conditions to slug it out in a pair of $5,000 Incredible Finale Series splits for state-breds with Fox Valley Lector and Incredible Bob coming up winners.

In the first division, G&B Stable of Illinois’ Fox Valley Lector turned a pocket-sitting trip into a 1 ¾-length victory in 1:57.2 over a track rated as “good.”

Given a perfect steer by driver Jason Dillander, the son of Richess Hanover-Love Life was hustled away from the gate and quickly grabbed control as the field moved by an opening quarter in :29.1. On the backstretch Dillander elected to let a hard-charging Ryan Anderson and Yiannoulas Boy take over the top spot and that gelding proceeded to lead the field through middle splits of :59.3 and 1:29.1.

After following his cover to the eighth-pole, Dillander moved the Roger Welch trainee to the outside. Responding beautifully Fox Valley Lector cruised right by the pacesetter to notch his second career victory. Yiannoulas Boy held on well to finish second while Filthy Rich (Lavern Hostetler) finished third, 5 ¾ lengths behind the winner.

Sent off as an overwhelming choice by the betting public Fox Valley Lector returned $3.20, $2.60 and $2.20.

In the nightcap, Robert LeRoy Enterprises’ Incredible Bob made every call a winning one in a career best of 1:56.2.

Storming away from post position four for driver Josh Sutton this gelded son of Incredible Finale-Rehab Job rolled through splits of :30, :59.1 and 1:28.1. After turning away a first-over bid by Rich N Flashy (Tyler Buter) at the top of the stretch, Incredible Bob then had to brace for the challenge of a pocket-sitting Sandbar Slugger (Brandon Simpson).

Digging in tenaciously as the pocket rocket pulled alongside of him, Incredible Bob managed to stave off the ferocious challenge as he held on to win by a head. First-time starter Timely Manner (Marcus Miller) turned in a solid effort to rally for the show dough.

The victory was the second of the season for the Stanley Miller trainee who returned $10, $5.20 and $2.60. (Balmoral Park)
