Two-year-old colt pacer JNC Diamond, making his first pari-mutuel start, was killed Thursday night as a result of a race accident at Hiawatha Horse Park that also left driver Gord McKnight with a reported broken pelvis.
The first-race accident occured when the McKnight-driver Clever Coquette made a break nearing the half and then fell. JNC Diamond, driven by Gord McDonnell, then ran into the fallen horse and was reportedly killed upon impact.
A son of Western Maverick, JNC Diamond was owned by Angelo Teti of Windsor, Ont.
