Freshman trotters set to battle in Crown eliminations

Costa Rica, the top money-earning 2-year-old trotter in harness racing, leads a group of 15 entrants for the Breeders Crown for 2-year-old filly trotters at Woodbine Racetrack. Two $25,000 elimination races will be held Friday, with the top five finishers in each division advancing to the $600,000 final on Oct. 24.
 
Also entered are Action-Broadway, Angostura, Bone A Fide, Christiana Hanover, Croquet Style, Fashion Feline, Impressive Kemp, Levi’s Lady, Poof She’s Gone, Southwind Samurai, Spicy Wings, Tequila Slammer, Ultimate Cameron, Up Front Juansteen.
 
Costa Rica, a daughter of Muscle Yankee-Examination, has won eight of 12 races and earned $813,961. Her victories include the Goldsmith Maid, Peaceful Way, and New Jersey Sire Stakes championship. She was second to Poof She’s Gone in the Merrie Annabelle. The filly is trained by Jimmy Takter for owners Christina Takter, John Fielding, and Jim Fielding.
 
John Fielding also owns part of Poof She’s Gone, who has won seven of nine races and banked $582,099. Poof She’s Gone (Kadabra-Travelin Superlite) was second in the Peaceful Way and is coming off a win in a division of the International Stallion Stakes. She is trained by Richard Norman. Joining Fielding in ownership are Melvin Hartman, Herb Liverman, and David McDuffee. 
 
Fashion Farms’ Fashion Feline (Broadway Hall-Sly Fox) has seven victories in 10 races and earnings of $319,273. She has won three consecutive starts, including the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes championship and a division of the International Stallion. She is trained by Jim Campbell.

Division leaders Il Villaggio, Pilgrims Taj, and Lucky Chucky are among 19 entries for the Breeders Crown for 2-year-old male trotters at Woodbine Racetrack. Two $25,000 elimination races will be held Friday, with the top five finishers in each division advancing to the $600,000 final on Oct. 24.

Also entered are Baximum, Classic Son, Expressway K, Flashback, Grumpy Jake, Hard Livin, He’s A Demon, He’s Spooky, Keystone Bernard, Magic Fruit, Muscle Massive, Newport Volo, RC Serpent, Sailaway Dream, Temple Of Doom, and Wishing Stone.

Il Villaggio has won six consecutive races, earning $464,521 in the process, since finishing sixth in his debut. His victories include the William Wellwood Memorial, the New Jersey Sire Stakes championship and divisions of the Bluegrass and Champlain stakes. The Yankee Glide-Dance To Market colt is trained by Erv Miller for owners Brittany Farms, Blue Chip Bloodstock, and Il Villaggio Partners.

Lucky Chucky (Windsong’s Legacy-Aerobics) has won seven of eight races, with his lone setback being a third-place finish in the Peter Haughton Memorial, and earned $407,992. He has since won four in a row, including the Valley Victory and divisions of the Bluegrass and International Stallion stakes. He is trained by Chuck Sylvester, who owns the colt with Neal Goldman and Amy Lynn Stoltzfus.

Pilgrims Taj (Broadway Hall-BWT Maija) has won five of eight races and earned $425,127. He has never finished worse than second. His wins include the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes championship and he was second in the Valley Victory and Peter Haughton Memorial. The colt is owned by Robert Bongiorno, Peter Heffering, Bix DiMeo, and Val D’or Farms.
