Indiana Sires Stakes action continued Wednesday night, October 7 at Indiana Downs as two-year-old trotters squared off in the second round of competition. Earl’s Glider won the $25,000 division for freshman colts in 1:59.1 while favorites Call Me Ching and Msnaughtybynature swept the two divisions for trotting fillies.

Earl’s Glider and driver Mark Graber fired to the lead from post eight in the night’s first race and never looked back, receiving every call on the way to a three and one-quarter length victory. The Earl Of Stormont – Havanna’s Glider gelding clicked off fractions of :29.1, :59.3 and 1:29.3 for trainer Jacob Graber en route to scoring his second career victory. Super Beat and Dan Shetler finished second, followed by favorite Solvent, driven by Jay Cross, in third.

Bred by Edwin Graber, Earl’s Glider is owned by Lewis Dickerhoof of Fort Wayne, Ind. The freshman has hit the board in seven of nine career starts, banking $52,825 this season. The winning time established a new lifetime mark for the trotter.

Call Me Ching and Dan Shetler took command racing to the half and cruised to an easy victory in the $25,000 first division for freshman filly trotters, stopping the clock in 2:01.1. The Keep It A Secret lass finished five and one-half lengths in front of Beedlbmb Bluegrass. CJ’s Susie and trainer Don Eash rounded out the trifecta.

The victory was the fifth of the season for the filly, owned by Vaun Warner and Greg Culley. The triumph pushed her career earnings over the $100,000 mark. Call Me Ching, trained by John Merkel, has yet to miss the board in 10 lifetime starts, and took a new mark with Wednesday’s win.

Heavy favorite Msnaughtybynature and Ron Wrenn moved for the lead racing to the quarter (:30.3) and remained on the point all the way to the wire, capturing the second $25,000 division in 2:00.3. Kara’s Secret trailed by half a length for Joe Putnam as Rick Farrington steered Hoosier Cheetah to a third-place effort. It was the sixth straight win for the Scramble Ranger filly.

Owned by Peter Wrenn and The Kales Company, Msnaughtybynature has accumulated $137,650 in seasonal earnings. Out of Pine Chip mare Miss Naughty Pine, the filly has won seven of 10 lifetime starts for Wrenn, who is also the trainer.
