Western Ace survived an inquiry to score a 1:53 victory in the $240,676 Matron final for 2-year-old colt and gelding pacers at Dover Downs Saturday night.

Western Ace raced outside, uncovered for most of the mile, and still rallied in the stretch for a 1:53 victory for driver Cat Manzi. Palone Ranger finished second for Brian Sears with Took Hanover and Ron Pierce third.

The win was the 11th of the year for Western Ace, owned by Teague Inc. and Kovach Stables.

In the $237,775 Matron for 2-year-old filly pacers, Pierce took odds-on favorite My Little Dragon to the front at the quarter and set the tempo the rest of the mile, scoring her fifth consecutive victory in 1:53.2. Armbro Dancer (Dave Palone), a $20,000 supplemental entry, finished second in front of Mommy Robin Q (Brian Sears).

Brendan Johnson trains the winner for owner Adam Victor & Son Stable.

Capetown Hall, owned by Christina Takter, John Fielding, Glen Brown and Margaret Oweida, enjoyed a perfect trip sitting second for driver Sears and came out in the stretch to overtake the favorite RC Royalty (Dan Daley) in deep stretch to win the $227,900 Matron final for freshman colt and gelding trotters in a track-record 1:56.1.

Pierce also won the $218,400 Matron final for 2-year-old filly trotters with Arlanda Hanover in a track-record 1:57. It was the third win in a row for the filly owned by Mark Steacy, David Reid and Asif Malik. Wherley (David Miller) was second with Macaria Hanover (Palone) third.
