Trainer-driver Jim Dailey took the wraps off a pair of fast freshman pacers and trotters on Wednesday  at Scioto Downs. The winners in the non-wagering events scored the fastest miles by freshmen of both gaits on a five-eighths-mile track this season.

Dailey scored an impressive 1:56.2 win with McMantle, a gelded son of McArdle from the Dragon’s Lair broodmare Fortheloveofthegame. Dailey did the driving himself and sent the pacer whirling through fractions of :28.4, :58 and 1:27 and then held off the bid of Sand Savage (Allamerican Native) to win by a head. Picture Me (The Panderosa) was just two lengths back in third place.

Dailey also won with Powerful Pete, stepping to a 6 1/4-length win in 1:57.2. The juvenile son of Kilowatt-Pan Hunter (Laag) paced his final panel in :27.2.

McMantle and Powerful Pete are the two fastest freshman pacers this season on a five-eighths-mile track and their times have been beaten only in a mile track performance.

Cool Colby, a freshman colt by Jailhouse Jesse, was a sharp winner for Dailey in 2:02, the final half-mile stepped in :59.2. He hit the wire 3 1/2 lengths ahead of his rivals. He is out of the Royal Troubador mare Royal Two.

Dailey also showed off a gelded freshman trotter Rose Run Legend, a winner by four lengths in 2:02.3. He came from well off the pace with a final half-mile in 59 seconds to win. He is a gelded son of Trainforthefuture-Rose Run Doowrah-Armbro Laser). (Scioto Downs)
