Friskie favored in Jug future

Return Home
June 20, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

North America Cup runner-up Feelin Friskie is the morning line favorite in the Little Brown Jug Future Wagering Pool, which will get underway at noon (EDT) on Thursday, June 22, at racetracks and on internet sites throughout North America and Europe.

Feelin Friskie, 7-2 on the morning line, finished second to Total Truth in this past Saturday’s $1.5 million(C) North America Cup final at Woodbine Racetrack. Total Truth is the second choice, at 4-1, on the morning line.

Jug Future wagering will be offered for a period of four days, through 11:30 p.m. (EDT) on Sunday, June 25. The future wager allows racing fans to bet early on all 3 year olds who are eligible to the Little Brown Jug. The minimum bet is $2, and all future Jug wagers are for win only.

The pool consists of 23 separate betting entries, plus the mutuel field. Every 3 year old in North America is included in the field, because if a colt wins the first leg of the Triple Crown, the Cane Pace on Sept. 4 at Freehold Raceway, he can be supplemented to the Little Brown Jug. The “field” will open at odds of 4-1.

P-Forty Seven, the 2005 Little Brown Jug winner, paid $377.80 in the first future pool, $22.40 in the second, and $43.20 in the third.

Phil Terry, director of marketing for the Delaware County Fair, assembled a blue ribbon team of seven analysts who selected the group of 23 colts and geldings. Each colt was assigned odds based on the selection order.

“Our analysts gave a slight nod to Feelin Friskie over Total Truth,” Terry said.

The team of analysts includes Dave Bianconi of Northfield Park, Roger Huston of The Meadows, Sam McKee of the Meadowlands, Paul Ramlow of the U.S. Trotting Association, Jason Settlemoir of Tioga Downs and simulcast director for the Delaware county Fair, Gordon Waterstone of the Horseman and Fair World, and Jay Wolf of the Delaware County Fair.

There will be four separate betting pools leading up to the Sept. 21 Little Brown Jug. The second future pool will be open the weekend after the Meadowlands Pace (July 20-23); the third will be offered the weekend of the Cleveland Classic at Northfield Park and the week before the Cane Pace at Freehold Raceway (Aug. 17-20); and the fourth will be open during the first four afternoons of racing (Sept. 17-20) at the Delaware County (Ohio) Fair.

Past performances will be available on Wednesday morning at all of the regular sites, and on line at www.littlebrownjug.com.

Among racetracks and internet sites accepting future wagers are Woodbine Entertainment, xpressbet.com, Tioga Downs, youbet.com, Northfield Park, Scioto Downs, Plainridge Racecourse, the Meadows, Saratoga Gaming and Raceway, Wheeling Island Gaming, River Downs, Delaware Park, America Tab, Beulah Park, Pony Up Bet, Capital District OTB, Suffolk Downs and Outlets, Fredericton Raceway, and European Wagering Services.

For contract and operational information contact Phil Terry at (740) 363-3754, or e-mail pterry@littlebrownjug.com, or e-mail simulcast director Jason Settlemoir at jasonlbj01@aol.com.
