Fuller remains optimistic for Buck I St. Pat

Connections of Buck I St. Pat are hopeful that she will be back in racing condition for the Miss Versatility Trot on Sept. 18 at the Delaware Co. Fair although she was scratched from the Classic Oaks at the Meadowlands on July 19 due to inflammation of the tendon sheath in her leg. She has been swimming for the past couple of weeks in preparation for returning to her training schedule with Mickey Burke.

“There was a little inflammation and rather than taking a chance, we wanted to make sure she was okay,” said Dr. Ronald Fuller, Buck I St. Pat’s co-owner and breeder. She has been doing well with her swimming and “she likes to swim,” he added.

If all goes well, she will attempt to qualify in two or three weeks. “We would love to race at Delaware,” Dr. Fuller said. “But we may find that we aren’t going to be able to do that so we’ll have to play that by ear.”

If she is not looking like she is up for racing at that time, she will probably be allowed to rest until next year. “There are a lot of good races left, but in the same token there are other years, too,” Dr. Fuller concluded.
