A full field of 12 sophomore pacing colts will line up behind the gate Saturday evening, May 29 in the $500,000 Hoosier Cup at Hoosier Park Racing & Casino. The Hoosier Cup is the featured event on a 14-race card that will offer Indiana Sires Stakes action and total purses of just over $1 million. This year’s contest features a trio of two-horse entries.
George Teague, who sent out 2009 Hoosier Cup winner Mr Wiggles, will return to Hoosier Park Saturday with a pair of entries. I’m Gorgeous will start from post two and will be driven by Corey Callahan. The son of Bettor’s Delight is owned by Teague and Elmer Fannin, who are also partners on Mr Wiggles. Windfall Blue Chip, the other half of the entry, has drawn post nine. The Art Major colt possesses the most earnings of any starter with $263,542 on his card. Hoosier Park’s leading reinsman Peter Wrenn is listed to drive the Teague and Ted Gewertz-owned sophomore.
World Of Rocknroll and Foreign Officer will ship to Hoosier Park after stints at the Meadowlands. Perfect in two starts this season, the Richard Norman-trained World Of Rocknroll has drawn post position 12 for the World Of Rocknroll Stable. The son of Rocknroll Hanover, coming off a 1:51.2 performance in New Jersey Sire Stakes action May 15, will be guided from the second tier by Ron Pierce.
Berry’s Creek elimination winner Foreign Officer will line up in post eight. Owned by Brittany Farms, John Fielding, Mel Hartman and John Fodera, the Western Ideal colt possesses the fastest time of the field with a 1:49.4 clocking in his Berry’s Creek win. He is trained by Tony Alagna and will be driven by Yannick Gingras.
Trainer Joe Seekman teamed with James Jesk’s Sawgrass Farms to win the 2008 Hoosier Cup with Art Official. Saturday the veteran conditioner will send out two Sawgrass entries in Morgan Shark and Perrito Caliente. A winner of the Fox Stake at two, Morgan Shark has yet to reach the winner’s circle in five starts this season. The Four Starzzz Shark gelding will line up fourth with Travis Seekman in the bike. To his immediate outside will be Perrito Caliente. The Art Major colt has hit the board in four of five contests in 2010, winning once. Ricky Macomber Jr. is slated to drive.
Woodbine invader Touch The Rock has drawn the rail in Saturday’s Hoosier Cup. The son of Rocknroll Hanover is coming off two consecutive wins for trainer Mark Austin, who co-owns the three-year-old with Dan Smith. His last effort was a 1:50.4 mile. Dave Magee will drive.
