Gale Warning ($3) avenged his nose defeat last week with an impressive 1 1/4-length triumph Wednesday at Pompano Park in the $12,000 winners-over trot.
The feature first saw Battleshoe Victor (Tom Sells), who edged Gale Warning last week at the wire, shoot to the lead from post six over Guy Gets Girl (Bruce Ranger). The passed by the opening quarter mile teletimer in :28 flat.
But driver Wally Hennessey already had Gale Warning in high gear and they flew right to the front as they passed the grandstand the first time. After the half-mile marker in :56.4, Table Wine and driver Dan Clements started to mount a first-over challenge with Classical Man (Tom Haughton) following the live second-over cover. They pressed Gale Warning to the three-quarters in 1:25.3 and that just urged the betting favorite to dig in and start to pull away by the top of the stretch, stopping the teletimer in a lifetime-best clocking of 1:54.2.
Gale Warning won with ease over Battleshoe Victor with Guy Gets Girl third. It was the third win this year for Gale Warning, a 5-year-old gelding by Strong Gale from the Robespierre mare, Liz’s Promise.
Owned by Rod Lorenzo, Ciro Gentile and the Pomtambo Stables of Boca Raton, Gale Warning is trained by Michile Lorenzo. (Pompano)
