Gallo paces home strong

Gallo Blue Chip, the sport's richest pacer of all time with $4.2 million in earnings, made his first start of 2005 at the Meadowlands Saturday night and paced his final quarter in :26.1, although it only netted him a sixth-place finish.



With regular driver Daniel Dube aboard, Gallo Blue Chip started from post five but got away eighth in the 10-horse field. He then dropped back to 10th at one point as horses began making their moves.



Last year Galllo made 14 starts and earned $86,178. Trainer Mark Ford has said that Gallo, an 8-year-old gelding, will continue racing as long as he remains sound and healthy and can compete competitively in the conditioned ranks.
