Gambling talk in Ill.

Discussion about slots at Illinois racetracks is expected to come up soon now that one portion of an expected enormous gambling expansion in Illinois easily leaped a Senate Executive Committee hurdle Tuesday afternoon. Legislators voted to allow three riverboats to move inland up to five miles from their current location.



Legislators and the governor have become more open to the expansion of gambling since the apparent death of a proposal to raise the income tax.



"He can borrow more on the future or he can look for other sources of revenue," one Republican senator told local reporters. "He's likely to look to the slots to get him out of this year's problems. "We're going to see gambling expansion in Illinois this year, a big expansion."
