George Foreman at Delaware

February 15, 2005 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Former heavyweight boxing champion of the world George Foreman, who has enjoyed fame recently for his indoor grills, found his way to the Blooded Horse Sale ring on Tuesday (Feb. 15).

Foreman, who became the world champion in 1970 by knocking out "Smokin" Joe Frazier, took a 10-year break from the sport, and came back at the age of 45 and defeated 26-year-old Michael Moorer and earned another world championship.

"Big George" as he is known, purchased hip number 374, Nan Can, who is by Super Bowl and is the dam of Lodgepole Pine and a half-sister to the dam of the world champion Moni Maker, and who is currently in foal to SJ's Photo.--By Jason Settlemoir/Blooded Horse Sale Company

Foreman also purchased hip number 377, an unnamed weanling by Albert Albert.

Foreman said that harness racing is "an all-American sport," and that he has been exposed to harness racing by watching in on television at his home in Houston, Tex. Foreman said he has always had a liking for the gaited horses and it helped that his wife allowed him to make his purchases in Delaware.

The former champ was spotted in the crowd by many, and he took the time to permit each person to take a picture, and also signed many autographs before he headed towards the exit doors.

Foreman said that his next visit to Delaware, Ohio will be in September, for the Little Brown Jug.
