Gerries Madison takes finale for 3-year-old filly pacers

Gerries Madison got the best of a thrilling three-horse duel in the stretch to win Thursday night's $45,200(C) Miss Vera Bars Pacing Series final for 3-year-old fillies at Woodbine Racetrack. Driver Rick Zeron picked up the catch-driving assignment behind the daughter of Apaches Fame-Peaceful Protest and engineered a perfect second-over trip to win.

Gerries Madison sat fifth in the early stages and watched as Paper Cut and Blue Mist exchanged the lead through a :56.3 opening half. At that point, Eagle Run started the outside flow from fourth with Gerries Madison moving out to grab the cover and favorite Changing Gears following on her back third over.

Blue Mist continued on top past three-quarters in 1:25.3 and was able to open some daylight turning for home as Gerries Madison and Changing Gears were both forced three wide around a stalled Eagle Run.

Gerries Madison was eventually able to haul down Blue Mist in the late stages and then narrowly held off Changing Gears for the 1:54.2 victory.

Blue Mist was able to salvage the show spot.

The victory for the Clark Beelby trainee was the second in four tries this season and boosted her career bankroll to more than $80,000(C) for owner Gerrie Tucker of Montreal, Que. (WEG)
