Giant Diablo won a qualifier at the Meadowlands Thursday morning, trotting to a 1:54.3 score, with a :27 last quarter, for driver David Miller. The 8-year-old mare by Supergill sat third for most of the mile, then made her move.
Giant Diablo, who won last fall's Allerage Trot with a world record 1:50.1 clocking, is slated to compete in the Su Mac Lad Series at the Meadowlands. The Swedish-based mare was trained by Roger Walmann over the winter.
The top pacing mare Darlin's Delight also won a qualifier, hitting the wire in 1:52--a whopping 12 1/2 lengths in front of her closest foe. She covered the final quarter in :26.3 for driver Yannick Gingras.
