Give Delaware Special winner proper respect

Proper Respect stepped up to the $32,500 Delaware Special to score a 1:51.3 victory by a nose in the Monday feature race at Dover Downs. Southwestern Dream notched the fastest win in 1:50 to take the $26,000 Open Pace. Ron Pierce fashioned a four bagger.

 

In the feature, Corey Callahan drove Proper Respect into the lead just past the first quarter pole and led the rest of the way for his second straight victory. On the backstretch the McArdle-She Has The Look 4 year old shook off a challenge from Kamwood Warrior N and Eddie Davis Jr. In the stretch, Pierce hustled Art Director down the lane in a hurry and was a nose back at the wire. Sniper Hall closed between horses nearing the wire for Jim Morand to finish third snapping a two-race win streak.

Southwestern Dream turned in the fastest clocking of the early meet. Ross Wolfenden pulled the Cambest gelding out of third heading to the half and then took the lead on the backstretch on the way to a 1:50 mile. Bruce Saunders trains Southwestern Dream, now an 11-time winner this year, for Frank Bellino. Three Of Spades dashed down the stretch for Morand to take second. Alastair Hanover and George Dennis were third.

 

Pierce steered Todd Wise's Romantic Thriller to his third win in a row with a 1:50.3 conquest in a $22,000 winners-over pace. Music Man NZ (Callahan) nipped JJ Gladiator (Morand) for second-place honors.

 

Montrell Teague piloted Mr. Apples to a 1:52.2 victory in an $18,000 pace. The 5 year old had to hold off a fast-finishing Fields Of Honour A (Davis) at the wire. Montoring Astreos N (Vince Copeland) took show honors. (Dover Downs)
