October 21, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Glidemaster and Majestic Son turned in dominant victories in their respective Breeders Crown 3-year-old colt and gelding trot eliminations Saturday night. Glidemaster rallied to a 1:53 victory over Here Comes Herbie and Global Glide in his $25,000 split for driver John Campbell and trainer Blair Burgess. Majestic Son, who self-destructed in last weekend's Ontario Sire Stakes Super Final, rebounded for a 1:55.4 triumph in his elimination for driver Trevor Ritchie and trainer Mark Steacy.

"He felt strong the whole mile," said driver John Campbell of Glidemaster. "I just wanted to get close to the leader (RC Royalty) up the backstretch. When I tipped out around the turn, he trotted strong right to the finish. I think Glidemaster is more than capable of winning from off the pace or on the lead. He was quite comfortable finishing up tonight."

The victory improved Glidemaster's 2006 record to 7-6-0 in 13 starts. The career winner of $1.5-million races for the partnership of Robert Burgess and Karin Olsson Burgess of Ontario along with Marsha Cohen of New Jersey and Brittany Farms of Kentucky.

Trevor Ritchie had the Majestic Son on the lead for the majority of the mile en route to the win over Berto Primo and Algiers Hall. Also earnings spots to next week's final were Make You Mine (4th) and Blue Mac Lad (5th).

"He was back to his normal self tonight," said Ritchie. "He can sometimes be a bit aggressive going up behind the gate, and when he does that he goes sideways. They weren't going much up front tonight, and I just let him roll up to the lead when he felt comfortable. Mark (trainer Steacy) and his crew have done a great job with the trotter this year. He looks great and when he's on the track his ears are forward. He's just a very happy horse."

It was the 13th win of the season and the 18th lifetime score for Majestic Son, who is quickly closing in on $1.6-million in career earnings for the Majestic Son Stable of Ontario.

Elimination winners earned the privilege of picking their post positions for the final. The post position draw will take place at the Breeders Crown press conference Tuesday afternoon at WEGZ Stadium Bar in Vaughan, ON. Here is an alphabetical listing of the 10 finalists: Algiers Hall, Berto Primo, Blue Mac Lad, Glidemaster, Global Glide, Here Comes Herbie, Majestic Son, Make You Mine, RC Royalty and Swan Image.
