Glowing Report in 1:50.4

Fresh off her Jugette victory last week at the Delaware County Fair, Glowing Report captured her $96,200 division of the (Bluegrass) Winbak Farms-Stonegate Farms 3-year-old filly pace in a lifetime best 1:50.4 Friday (Oct. 1) afternoon at The Red Mile. The second division saw Nu-Diamond Star score a mild upset in 1:51.2.

Driver George Brennan sent Glowing Report to the lead after the :27 opening quarter. From there the Artsplace filly was in command with fractions of :55 and 1:23. In the lane she drew away to a three-length victory over Ice Sculpture and David Miller with She's My Belle and John Campbell third.

Owned by Marvin Rounick and trained by Jerry Silverman, Glowing Report won for the fourth time this year in 17 starts, but increased her earnings for the year to $303,697.

In the $95,200 second division Mike Lachance and Nu-Diamond Star sat sixth in the seven-horse field through early fractions of :27.1 and :54.2. Lachance found cover to follow third-over and closed to the leaders at the 1:23 third quarter. She was still five or more lengths behind the pace setting Kikikatie at the top of the lane, but following the first-over Armbro Bombay and Ron Pierce. In deep stretch Armbro Bombay put away Kikikatie, but she couldn't hold off the late rally by Nu-Diamond Star who got up in the final strides for the victory.

The victory is a lifetime record for the Artiscape filly who has won five of 14 starts for trainer Home Hochstetler and owners Shirley and Arthur Le Vin.

Housethatruthbuilt, racing against Silver Springs for the first time since that filly beat her by 2 1/4 lengths in the Hambletonian Oaks final, gained a measure of revenge, holding off the latter by a length in the$104,400 second division of the (Bluegrass) Yankeeland Farms 3-year-old filly trot with a mile in 1:54.1.

Brian Sears was in the bike as Housethatruthbuilt took command after an opening quarter in :28 and trotted to fractions of :56.1 and 1:25.2. Silver Springs and George Brennan came first-over at the half but couldn't reach, finishing one length back at the wire.

This was the third straight victory and seventh in 11 season starts for the Muscles Yankee filly trained by Trond Smedshammer for owners Patricia Spinelli and Ted Gewertz.

It was a training sweep for Smedshammer, who drove Habit's Lady to a 1:54.2 victory in the first division.

Ivy Swinger and Eric Ledford took the field to the opening quarter in :28 and the half in :56 before Three Little Words and Ray Paver took command going to the 1:24.4 third quarter. Three Little Words looked to have the race won in the lane when she went off stride, and then Habit's Lady came with a rush to score her first victory of the year in five starts over Self Indulgent and David Miller with Shannon Hall and Lachance third.

The Status Stable owns the winning Muscles Yankee filly, who came into the $104,400 race with only $31,820 in lifetime earnings on her card.
