Glowing Report commanded the early lead and dug in gamely for a 1 ˝-length victory over Valley Electric in the $100,000 Hanover Shoe Farms-brit stud.com Matriarch on Sunday afternoon at the Meadowlands. Driven by David Miller, Glowing Report equaled her lifetime mark of 1:50.1. It was another half-length to Burning Point in third.

"I like to race her and I thought if I took off, I would be first-over," Miller said. "I felt it out leaving and she was getting to the front pretty easy. I didn't know where Loyal Opposition landed. I just let her keep pacing and by the last turn, when nobody got to her, I was feeling pretty good.

"They don't come any tougher than this mare," Miller added. "She can race any way you want her to. It's just a shame she hasn't won more races, but she's a hard-knocking, shows up every week type of horse."

Trained by Jerry Silverman, Glowing Report record her 15th lifetime win in 55 starts and surpassed the $1.5 million mark in earnings. The 5-year-old daughter of Artsplace-Grand Lady is owned by Marvin Rounick.

In addition to 50 percent of the purse, the winner of the Matriarch receives the choice of a breeding from among three of the sport's premier pacing stallions: Artsplace, Cam's Card Shark and Western Ideal. Cam's Card Shark and Western Ideal stand at Hanover Shoe Farms' stallion station in Lambertville, N.J. and Artsplace, managed by britstud.com, stands at Southwind Farms in Pennington, N.J.

Easton Alliance N, the 9-5 favorite, leaned in on the turn and hooked wheels with Loyal Opposition, causing both horses to break stride. Both horses were examined and reported to be fine. (Meadowlands)
