Go Get Em sweeps in Lookout Hanover

Go Get Em made a decisive quarter-pole move and went on to capture Tuesday’s $26,800 final of the Lookout Hanover at The Meadows, completing his 3-race sweep of the series for 3-year-old colt and gelding pacers.
 
The gelded son of Four Starzzz Shark-She’s The One so dominated the series that he won his trio of races by a combined 16-3/4 lengths and was ahead at every call save the quarter pole in Tuesday’s final.
 
“He’s been better every week, and he came home into a pretty stiff headwind today but was well within himself,” said Dave Palone, his pilot for all three series victories. “He has a beautiful mouth, and you can drive him with two fingers. I’m looking forward to the PA Sires Stakes to see if he can take the next step against the better colts.”

Palone said he raced Go Get Em on the front throughout the Lookout Hanover to avoid traffic problems but that the horse doesn’t need the lead to perform his best.    

“He’s very versatile,” Palone said. “I can’t wait to try him out of a hole. I actually think he’ll be better.”

Go Get Em took the final in 1:53.2, 2 lengths better than Wayne The Lefty, a vet scratch last week. Totally Empressive raced well first over for show. Go Get Em’s trainer, Kevin McDermott, and Joseph Zicchino purchased the colt privately during the series.

In the $25,000 Filly & Mare Preferred Handicap Pace, Spring Break snapped a frustrating streak of four consecutive place finishes by charging through the lane for Mike Wilder to score in 1:53. Save My Shark, a 16-1 longshot, rallied through the Lightning Lane for second, a head back, while early leader Red Star Hottie finished third.

Randy Bendis trains Spring Break, a 6-year-old daughter of Dream Away-Siobhan who pushed her career bankroll to $566,271, for Joann and Joe Thomson.
