Golden Receiver paced a blistering mile in sloppy conditions to win the featured Open pace on Friday night at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. The race carried a purse of $30,000.
Leaving as the 2-5 favorite from the inside post in a field of 6, Golden Receiver waited until the first time through the front stretch to make a play for the lead, eventually clearing Drive All Night at the ˝-mile point of the race. No one was able to seriously threaten the lead from that point on, as Golden Receiver, with Mike Simons in the bike for trainer Mark Harder, came home a winner by 2 lengths in 1:50:2 in the slop. Cheyenne Knight rallied for 2nd while Drive All Night finished 3rd.
Golden Receiver is now 2-for-2 against Open pacers at Pocono since shipping in from Vernon Downs. The 4-year-old gelding, sired by Village Jove, won for the 9th time in 2009 and picked up his 14th victory in 30 lifetime starts, pushing his career earnings just shy of $140,000. (Pocono Downs)
