Heading into Sunday's $175,000 Allerage Farms Open Pace final at The Red Mile, driver Corey Callahan expressed confidence in a victory. Despite sloppy conditions as a result of heavy rain, Golden Receiver led from start to finish--at odds of 12-1--to win in 1:50 and reward Callahan's faith.
Leaving from post 5, Callahan sent Golden Receiver fast off the wings, leading through a :28.1 quarter and :55.3 half. Around the final turn an outer flow began to develop, led by the Brett Miller-driven Clear Vision, followed by Sweet Lou and Yannick Gingras. But Callahan kept his foot to the gas pedal, reaching three-quarters in 1:22.4 (:27.1). Although Clear Vision appeared to take a short lead midway down the stretch, Golden Receiver battled back for the victory. Sweet Lou was third.
Now eight, Golden Receiver won for the 58th time in 140 career starts. The son of Village Jove is trained by Mark Harder for owners Our Horse Cents Stable and Nina Simmonds. The Allerage score brings his career earnings to $1,951,136.
