O’Brien Award recipient Laddie was a convincing winner in his second qualifier of the season Friday morning at Mohawk Racetrack, scoring by 1 1/4 lengths in 1:58.1. The son of Angus Hall-Victory Dreamer, with regular pilot Paul MacDonell in tow, took over command just past the half and then turned in a :57.3 final half for the sharp victory. Laddie was coming off a third-place finish in his first qualifying attempt of the season last week at Mohawk. He missed the first OSS Gold event of the season which was contested at Mohawk. Last season as a rookie, Laddie won six of his 10 starts for owner-trainer Paula Wellwood of Cambridge, Ont. His biggest win came in the second edition of the William Wellwood Memorial which Paula had also captured the previous season with Was It A Dream. Laddie ended his freshman campaign with just over $429,000(C) in earnings. Other impressive winners Friday morning included OSS Gold winner Raw Energy (1:56.2), top female trotter Snazzy Millie (1:57.3), improving colt The Marathon Pan (1:55) and 2-year-old pacing filly Spare Time Moejoe (1:59.1).
