September 12, 2008 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Good News Lady, winless in 12 starts this season but with 2008 earnings of $360,885, is the 5-2 morning line favorite for Wednesday’s $300,475 Jugette for 3-year-old filly pacers at the Delaware County Fair in Delaware, Ohio. Ten 3-year-old fillies were entered for the 38th Jugette.

Good News Lady has finished second or third eight times racing against the finest fillies in her division.  She was third in last week’s $253,400 Nadia Lobell, second in the $250,000 Valley Forge and second in the $407,400 Mistletoe Shalee final.

The daughter of Western Ideal has lifetime earnings of $592,259 for trainer Jimmy Takter. Greg Grismore will drive Good News Lady for owners Brittany Farms, Val D’or Farms and Christina Takter. Good News Lady will start from Post three.

Thong (4-1) and Miss Scarlet (5-1) figure to provide Good News Lady with some stiff competition.

Thong is the richest filly in the Jugette with a lifetime bankroll of $622,926, but after a strong start this season she has finished ninth, eighth and sixth in her last three starts. Her biggest win this year came in the $325,230 Lizmore final. Tim Tetrick will drive Thong from Post five for Jerry Silva and the North State Street Staable. Kevin Lare is the trainer.

Miss Scarlett, owned by former University of Kentucky basketball All-American Charles (Cotton) Nash and Julie Nash, is fresh from a 1:50.4 victory in the Hayes Memorial at Du Quoin, Ill. Trained by Bret Shultz, Miss Scarlet has winnings of $270,156. Cotton and Julie also owned 1995 Jugette winner Magic Shopper.
