Chelemark Porter, Standpoint, Xactly Hanover and Quite Easy won their respective $30,000(C) eliminations for the Goodtimes Saturday night at Mohawk.
Steve Condren drove the Balanced Image gelding Chelemark Porter to the three-quarters of length score over Cayenne Turbo in 1:55.2. Smarty Jims was third, beaten a length.
Ronald O’Neill trains the now four-time winner, who got up in the last strides, for owner-breeder Doug Millard Farms of Woodstock. “He’s coming along good,” said Condren. “Hope he gets better yet.” Chelemark Porter won at odds of 14-1 and Standpoint came right back in the second elim with a 7-1 upset. Trond Smendshammer drove the Andover Hall colt to the wire-to-wire 1 ¾-length victory over Arsenal Hall in 1:55.2. Tymal Cherub was another three parts of a length back in third. Smendshammer trains and also owns a piece of the three-time winner with Willow Pond LLC, Theodore Gerwetz and Sampson Street Stables. Flirtin Man, the less than 2-5 favorite, made a break going down the backstretch and was distanced. Xcatly Hanover restored order for the favorites, registering a solid win in his seasonal debut in the third division. Andy Miller drove the SJ's Caviar colt to the three-quarters of a length victory over Monkey Bones in a career-best 1:55.3. Hallo was beaten three lengths in third. Osvaldo Formia trained the chestnut Pennsylvania-bred to his fourth career tally for Peter Barbato, Skipper Mathews and Tindaro Abramo of New Jersey. “He felt super today,” said Miller. The fourth and final Goodtimes elim went to Quite Easy who scored in 1:56 in his 2007 pari-mutuel debut. John Campbell was in the bike behind the son of Andover Hall as he bested runner-up Celtic Warrior, with Arch Madness third. Trained by Jimmy Takter, Quite Easy is owned by the Quite Easy Partners of Versailles, Ky.
Following the elims the post position draw was held and the connections of the four winners selected the inside four posts. Hall and Tymal Cherub were the two third-place finishers that also returned for the final besides the winners and runners-up.
