Wolf Creek Ted ruined Sing Jesse Sing’s Ohio homecoming by upsetting the favorite in a division of the Ohio Sire Stakes at Scioto Downs on the July 4 holiday matinee program.
Sing Jesse Sing was coming off a win in the $375,390 Goodtimes at Mohawk Raceway and was clearly the star of the show for the Buckeye racing fans. Sing Jesse Sing began his career at Scioto and bettors sent him off at odds of five cents on the dollar.
My D Sammy moved to the lead early as driver Mike Wilder put Sing Jesse Sing in the third spot along the rail. When the tempo slowed after the :27.3 opening quarter, Wilder sent Sing Jesse Sing to the front. The second quarter was a leisurely :29.3. When a third quarter in :29.3 followed, Sing Jesse Sing seemed to be home free, but no one bothered to tell driver Dan Noble and Wolf Creek Ted. They launched an attack in the final quarter and trotted past the favorite in the stretch. Wolf Creek Ted hit the wire in 1:57 and was 1 1/4 lengths ahead of Sing Jesse Sing, who saved second place by a half-length over My D Sammy. The winner paid $47.20. At odds of 23-1, he was the second choice in the field. Wolf Creek Ted is trained by Jim Arledge Jr. and owned by Dustin Arledge. It was the second win in eight starts this season for the son of Emile Angus. A total of seven sophomore Ohio Sire Stakes for colts were contested on Sunday at Scioto. Other sophomore trotting winners were Surclasser (Jeff Nisonger) in 1:57, Buckeye Man (Wilder) in 1:58.2, and Count Till Dawn (Marty Wollam) in 1:58.2. A trio of Ohio Sire Stakes for sophomore pacers were held and the winners were Trick Man (Ray Paver) in 1:53.2, Yarrows Cruiser (Chris Page) in 1:53.3, and Doc’s Yankee (Dan Noble) in 1:53.4.
