Paul Gordon Dickerson, 69, who produced programs for many racetracks over the years and was involved in the creation of the March of Dimes Invitational Trot, died suddenly at home on Sunday, February 22.
Born in Centerville, Ind., Gordon produced the first harness racing program at Pocono Downs as well as the successful Turf News Daily tip sheet. He also produced the programs at Ocean Downs, Freehold Raceway, Aurora Downs, and at several other racetracks across the country.
Over the years, he served as a racing official in various capacities. He was a well-known bloodstock consultant and the owner of Stonecrest Consulting. Gordon and his partner created the March of Dimes Invitational Trot at Garden State Park, which featured some of the fastest trotters from all over the globe and was considered one of the greatest races of all time.
He was also a U.S. Army veteran, serving as a missile fire control director with the 2nd Battalion of the 43rd Artillery during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Surviving are his former wife, Sandra Dickerson, son Jeff Dickerson and grandson Michael, and daughter Sherri Dickerson, all of Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; brother Darrell Dickerson, Naples, Fla.; sister Barbara Culbertson, Richmond, Ind.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and his companion, Debbie Weeks, and her children, Correy, Tina, Dana and Jared, and grandchildren, all of Asbury, NJ.
Services will be held Sunday, March 8, at 2 pm in the Laurel Run Primitive Methodist Church, 3835 Laurel Run Road, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
