Goshen gearing up for 2008 season

Goshen Historic Track, where it all started and where it still is today, is gearing up for it 171st season of exciting harness racing and 2008 marks the 98th year of Grand Circuit Racing at the "Cradle of the Trotter."

On tap this season will be three matinee programs in June and five days of Grand Circuit racing from July 2 through July 6. Action at Historic Track commences on Saturday, June 7, with the first of three matinee programs which continue on Saturdays, June 14 and Saturday, June 21. Post times for all three matinee race cards will be at 1 p.m.

The annual Amy Bull Crist Luncheon will be held under the tent on Tuesday, July 1, at the national historic landmark and as usual it will serve as a kick-off to the Grand Circuit racing programs that begin on the following afternoon.

On July 2 and continuing for five consecutive days through July 6, the Grand Circuit racing programs will take center stage with all post times continuing to be at 1 p.m.

On Wednesday, July 2 the New York Sire Stakes County Fair Division for 2 -and 3-year-old trotters and pacers will take center stage followed the next afternoon, July 3, by Landmark Stakes for 2 year olds.

On Friday, July 4, the Landmark Stakes for 3 year olds and the C.K.G. Billings Amateur Driving Classic share the spotlight and the following afternoon, Saturday, July 5 the New York Sire Stakes for 3-year-old pacers and the Ladies Invitational Pace will be featured.

Sunday, July 6, is Hall of Fame Day with the annual Hall of Fame Trot, driven by members of harness racing's Living Hall of Fame, as the feature of the afternoon racing card though the supporting races in the 3-year-old trotting division of the New York Sire Stakes will make for a enjoyable afternoon for all harness fans.

That day will end with the annual Hall of Fame banquet at 5 p.m. on the lawn of the Trotting Horse Museum, which is adjacent to Historic Track.

Admission to any racing program is $3 and the purchase of box seats is still available by calling Linda Myers at (845) 294-5333.
