Great Expense in upset

Great Expense rushed four wide to the wire and scored a 1:50.2 upset victory in the $90,000 final of the Clyde Hirt Series at the Meadowlands Saturday night.



Going off at odds of 10 to 1, Great Expense and Daniel Dube were fifth at the tree quarters as Master This and Brian Sears were attempting their third straight wire-to-wire trip in the series. But on this night Master This faltered in the stretch, and the fastest to overtake the favorite was Great Expense who came home in :27.2 and posted a 1/2-length victory over Armbro Becalm and David Miller. Shu Hanover and Cat Manzi were third with Master This fading to fourth.



The time for the race is a lifetime best for the winning 4-year-old son of Rustler Hanover owned by Randy Zane and trained by Mark Silva.
