Great win in Cutler final

Mr. Muscleman, eighth at the half, came five wide at the top of the lane, and with a tremendous rally, got up in the final strides and captured the $180,000 Arthur J. Cutler Memorial Final in 1:54.3 over a sloppy track at the Meadowlands Saturday night. The victory put the 5-year-old gelded son of Muscels Yankee over the $2-million in lifetime earnings.

Asked what he thought of Mr. Muscleman's chances of winning were when he was third-over and eighth at the half, owner Adam Victor said, "I was thinking he was going to have to be some kind of animal to win this race. And he is. This is an exciting horse to watch and I hope to watch him for several years to come."

While Mr. Muscleman and driver Ron Pierce were buried in the back of the 10-horse field, HP Paque and then stablemate Sand Vic took the field through fractions of :28, :56.3 and 1:25.4, with Sand Vic and Brian Sears opening a three-length lead on the field at the top of the stretch.

But in the lane Hellava Hush and Cat Manzi chased down the leader to finish second, but could not hold off the tremendous effort by Mr. Muscleman, who scored his third straight victory and fourth in five starts this year for trainer Noel Daly.
