Green Day, the Yonkers Trot winner, extended his winning streak to three in the $85,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes for 3-year-old trotters on Friday at Freehold Raceway and also tied the 1:56 world record, which he equaled in capturing the Yonkers Trot on Aug. 25.
Green Day [$3.00, $2.40], a son of Enjoy Lavec, was driven by Cat Manzi and sent off as the 1-2 favorite. He took the lead at the quarter, held off the late challenge up the inside by the pocket-sitter Princetonian [$3.00], and won by a neck. Princetonian, who is by Dream Vacation, was driven by Daniel Dube and trained by Ray Remmen.
Yankee Splinter, a son of Muscles Yankee who was driven by Yannick Gingras and trained by Arlid Eggen, was third by eight lengths. There was no show wagering.
A $6,000 yearling purchase, he was bred by the Black Horse Racing of Lebanon, NJ.
Owned by trainer Jim Raymer’s Trillium Racing Stable of New Holland, PA, Green Day has 10 wins, one second and two thirds from 17 starts this year. Lifetime he has 11 wins, four seconds and two thirds from 26 starts and banked $654,045. (NJSS)
