Yonkers Trot winner Green Day carries a two-race winning streak into the $85,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes final for 3-year-old trotting colts and geldings on Friday at Freehold Raceway. The gelded son of Enjoy Lavec, driven by Cat Manzi and trained by Jim Raymer, has been installed as the 6-5 morning line favorite in the field of eight in the sixth-race feature. A $6,000 yearling purchase for Raymer’s Trillium Racing Stable of New Holland, Pa., Green Day has nine wins, one second and two thirds from 16 starts this year for earnings of $567,175 toward a career total of $611,545.
Green Day, in the process of winning a New Jersey Stakes leg on June 7 at the Meadowlands, posted his lifetime best of 1:54.1 and set a New Jersey Sire Stakes record for 3-year-old gelded trotters on the mile track.
The 3-year-old New Jersey Sire Stakes records on Freehold’s half-mile course belong to the filly Bee Line (1:55.2 on Sept. 7, 2006), the geldings Arnold Plumstead (1:56 on Oct. 9, 1997) and Armbro Copenhagen (1:56 on Aug. 26, 2005) and the colt Chasing Tail (1:57.1 on Aug. 24, 2001).
