Green Day sets 1:56 track record

August 25, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

At odds of 6-1, Green Day took the $644,770 Yonkers Trot Saturday in 1:56.  Taking a three length lead going to the quarter, driver Cat Manzi had Green Day on front at every race call and never looked back, winning by a half length over Up Front Larry.

Green Day took the field to a :28.3 first quarter with Up Front Larry and Dave Palone getting the perfect pocket trip.  Quite Easy did not have an easy trip as he was parked the entire mile.

Up Front Larry didn’t have quite enough and finished second while Adrian Chip and Robert Bergh came up on the outside to get third, beating Anderberg and Steve Smith, who came up the inside from nearly last, by a nose.

Green Day is by Enjoy Lavec out of the Lindy Lane mare Sonoma Hanover.  Owned by Trillium Racing Stable of New Holland, Penn and trained by Jim Raymer, Green Day was a $6,000 Lexington Select yearling purchase.

“He’s a horse for the track,” said trainer Jim Raymer.  “He’s a good half mile track horse and we’re fortunate that racetracks like Yonkers and Monticello put on these good half mile races for our horses.  We’re fortunate that we could get Cat to drive because he’s got more experience than anyone on a half.  Cat knew what he was doing and when you get a veteran like Cat to drive a horse, I think that he’ll bring you the best you have to offer that night at the races.”

The 1:56 mile is a new track record for three-year-old trotting geldings and was just a fifth of a second off Glidemaster’s Yonkers Trot win last year.
