A night after winning Yonkers Raceway's $65,000 final of the Petticoat Pacing Series with Ridge Jumper, Greg Grismore was at again, taking the $67,000 Sagamore final Saturdaynight at Yonkers with another Mickey Burke Stable pupil, this time scoring with Bob's Alibi.
The Sagamore and the Petticoat are both for 3 and 4 year olds, the Sagamore for males and the Petticoat for fillies and mares.
Bob's Alibi started from post five but was in play early. The 11-10 favorite stepped around Cullen's Blue Jean (Jordan Stratton) before passing the baton to Art's Image (Stephane Bouchard).
Art's Image--the only perfect (3-for-3) prelim performer--rolled through a :26.3 opening quarter-mile before "rating" a :55.4 intermission. Victory's Boy (Greg Merton) tried it first-up from fourth, only to pace in place. Art's Image maintained his lead through a 1:24.2 three-quarters, but Bob's Alibi was barking on his back. Grismore vacated the two-hole early in the final turn, and Art's Image was powerless to stop it. Bob's Alibi's rolled home by 2-3/4 widening lengths in 1:53.2, with Cullen's Blue Jean grabbing second over Art's Image. "When I moved him off the final turn, he just exploded," Grismore said. "Races rarely work out the way you think, but I knew I wanted to be near the lead, and I figured Stephane had the same idea. This (gelding) is just razor-sharp right now."
