Gritty mare to be bred

Return Home
March 25, 2005 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Artistic Vision, the gritty performer who is the only mare to ever sweep the finals of the White Ruffles, Jersey Girls and Night Styles Series at the Meadowlands, has been retired and is now at Hunterton Farm at Stoner Creek to be bred to Western Hanover.

The 7-year-old Artistic Vision retires with 34 wins in 92 starts and $634,808 in earnings for owners Charles "Cotton" Nash, his wife, Julie, and his sister, Francene. The Nashes purchased Artistic Vision, a daughter of Artsplace out of the Cam Fella mare Armbro Ophelia, for $40,000 as a yearling from breeder Armstrong Bros. She is a full sister to 2003 Adios winner Armbro Animate, who earned more than $725,000.

Trained by Bret Shultz, Artistic Vision's biggest victory came in the 2003 Overbid Series, sweeping through the three-leg series and winning the $128,500 final. She set her career mark of 1:50.2 on April 12, 2002, in a conditioned event at the Meadowlands, a time she equaled on Aug. 21, 2003, while capturing an Open Pace at Balmoral Park.

Through Artistic Vision's six years of racing, her annual mark came at five different racetracks as her owners sent her to tracks across the country and Canada to compete. Artistic Vision made her final start March 18 at the Meadowlands, with her final trip to the winner's circle coming at that track on Feb. 18 when she won a $30,000 conditioned event.
