December 27, 2005 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Gryffindor, who proved himself one of the top 3 year olds of the season, stepped from the stakes to the Invitational ranks against older horses and scored a 1:53 triumph in the $35,000 contest Monday, Dec. 26, at Dover Downs.

Driven To Win, driven by George Dennis, took the early lead from Gryffindor and driver David Miller, and then yielded after a :27.4 opening quarter. From there to the finish line Gryffindor controlled the action in recording his 14th win of the season in 29 starts with five seconds and two thirds.

Purchased by Three Point Acres for a reported $250,000 in September, Gryffindor is trained by Chuck Crissman Jr. Gryffindor has earned a check in each of his eight races since, including victories in the Messenger, the James B. Dancer Memorial and Progress Pace and a second in the Matron along with a third in the Breeders Crown. The gelded son of Dragon Again has now won $735,764 this year.

Roddy's Bags Again, the only other 3 year old in the field of eight starters, closed late for Eddie Davis Jr. to finish second. Mark's Secret Love and driver Tony Morgan finished a nose behind in third.
