May 01, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

After missing by a nose in his most recent outing, Guy Gets Girl returned to the winner’s circle for the second time in three starts after taking Monday’s $10,000 Isle Mile I Trot at Pompano Park in 1:56.

Driven from post five by Bruce Ranger, Guy Gets Girl was quick off the gate in the Monday feature, sprinting through the first turn to open up an early four-length advantage after an opening quarter mile clocked in :28.1

Following a second-panel breather in :29.2 to reach the half-mile pole in :57.3, Guy Gets Girl continued to show the way as the trotters marched down the backstretch, passing the three-quarters marker in 1:26.4.

Guy Gets Girl entered the stretch with a 1 3/4-length lead and was strong down the lane, holding off a late charge by Railee Possible (David Ingraham) to prevail by one-half length  at the wire.

Guy Gets Girl returned $5.80, $2.80, $2.40 for the victory. Railee Possible brought in $2.40, $2.40 for second while Ashcos Scotty (Tom Sells), who finished fourth but was placed third after the disqualification of Muscular (Dave Mercer), paid $2.80.

Owned by Paul Ministrelli of Brighton, Mich., and trained by Tom Beckette, Guy Gets Girl has a career record of 36 wins from 150 starts and exits his Monday triumph with a lifetime bankroll of $251,691.

The gelding is an 8-year-old son of Keystone Nordic, out of the Jurgy Hanover mare Story Time.
