Guy Gets Girl, at odds of 7-5), won the featured $12,000 winners-over trot at Pompano Park on Wednesday night, with Bruce Ranger doing the driving.
Guy Gets Girl ($4.80) and Ranger moved swiftly off the gate from post four to take the early lead as they trotted over to the first quarter in :28.1. As they came down the stretch in front of the grandstand Wally Hennessey pulled Gale Warning and took command at the half-mile marker in :58.2. Gale Warning and Hennessey lead the field over to the three quarters in 1:27.
As they turned for home Ranger moved Guy Gets Girl from the pocket and goes on to win by a quarter length in 1:56.3. Better By Design (Steve Oliwa) finished second with Hennessey and Gale Warning finishing third.
It was the fifth win this year for 9-year-old Guy Gets Girl by Keystone Nordic-Story Time, who is trained by Ranger and owned by the Bruce Ranger Racing Stable Inc. of Pompano Beach. In the second leg of the Sunshine State Stakes for 3-year-old Florida-Bred filly trotters, Guided Miss Tique ($46.80) and Veral Bowman won the first race in 2:02.4.
Guided Miss Tique, by Guided Speed-Feather N My Hat, is trained by Bowman and owned by James W. Murphy of Pompano Beach.
Southern Rain ($2.40), by Wewering-Saucy T, won by a head in the 3-year-old division for colts and geldings in 1:58.4 for driver Ranger. Mark Rorabeck of Arizona owns Southern Rain, who is trained by Mike Deters.
Baileysirishdream ($2.60) and Robert Roberts won the second division for 3-year-old filly trotters in 2:00.1. Baileysirishdream is trained by Roberts and owned by Barbara Bailey of Deleon Springs. (Pompano Park)
