Guy Gets Girl ($3.60) was able to overcome a sloppy, rain-soaked track in posting his 45th career victory Wednesday in the $12,000 feature trot at the isle pompano park.
Trained and driven to victory by Bruce Ranger, Guy Gets Girl was able to go right to the lead from post two in the third race and was able to hold the field at bay to the opening quarter mile in :28.4. With Table Wine (Dan Clements) right on their back, Guy Gets Girl trotted past the half-mile pole in 1:00 as Kid Conway (Mickey McNichol) started up on the outside to pressure the leaders.
By the three-quarter mile marker in 1:29.3, Guy Gets Girl was still in control but as they started down the stretch Ranger urged Guy Gets Girl on and he responded by pulling away from the field to win by one and three-quarter lengths in 1:58. Table Wine held for second place with Terminator Hall (Jim McDonald) third.
