Gypsy wins Newcomer final

Fighting Gypsy drew away to win Monday night's Newcomer Series final at Balmoral Park in 1:55.2.



The 4-year-old Fighting Major mare and driver Sam Widger went to the lead out of post position five, but relented to slow-starting Odds On Casey (Tim Tetrick), who clipped a second-quarter split of :25.4.



Fighting Gypsy regained the lead in the stretch and drew off to win by 4 ½ lengths. Odds On Casey was second with Arizona Helen (Jason Dillander) third.



Fighting Gypsy is five for six lifetime for owner Mitchell Rosenthal and trainer Roger Welch.
