Hall escapes serious injury in spill at The Meadows

Driver Tony Hall, who was thrown to the track on Tuesday's card at The Meadows in a race accident that appeared alarming, was treated and released at Canonsburg General Hospital with no serious injuries.

Pastor Joe DiDonato, chaplain for The Meadows, visited the 30-year-old driver at the emergency room and said physicians advised Hall that he could treat his injured leg at home.

The mishap occurred in the third race with Hall, driving Tricky Again, positioned just ahead of Captain Greg, with Dave Palone driving. Palone said Captain Greg bolted and ran up on Hall and Tricky Again. For a moment, Hall seemed to disappear beneath the panicked Captain Greg, only to reappear on the track, prone and motionless.

However, Hall was conscious and alert when the ambulance arrived to transport him to the hospital. Parade Marshal Missy Rothfuss snatched up Tricky Again, so there was no additional harm to drivers and horses.

Hall, who grew up in Carlisle, Ohio, is The Meadows' second-leading driver, by wins and percentage, in 2009. It was not immediately known if he would miss any time while recuperating. Among the track's most active drivers, he is scheduled for assignments in 15 of Wednesday's 16 races. (The Meadows)
