Eight of the world's finest harness horsemen will compete in the ninth annual $10,000 Mr. and Mrs. Elbridge Gerry Memorial Trot at Historic Track in Goshen, N.Y., on Sunday. After the race, drivers will participate in a "Meet and Greet" session with the public and sign photographs at the south end of the grandstand.

Competing on the day he will be inducted into the Living Hall of Fame will be Wally Hennessey, a native of Prince Edward Island best known for driving 1998 and 1999 Horse of the Year, Moni Maker. Joining Hennessey will be John Campbell, harness racing's all-time leading driver by purse earnings (nearly $250 million), along with Clint Galbraith, trainer-driver and co-owner of 1979 and 1980 Horse of the Year Niatross.

They'll be joined by three-time Little Brown jug winning driver Ron Pierce and five-time Little Brown Jug winner Mike Lachance. Dave Magee, among the sport's top 10 leading race-winners and a former Harness Tracks of America Driver of the Year, will also participate, along with Jim Doherty, who has trained and driven $3 million winner Fool's Goal and Breeders Crown winner No Nonsense Woman. John Simpson Jr., four-time winner of the Kentucky Futurity, rounds out the competition.

Racing will take place at Historic Track on Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. each day. Admission is $3 per person and children under 12 are free. The track is adjacent to the Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame at 240 Main Street in Goshen, where admission is free for all ages.
