After the first month of its 2008 racing season, Scioto Downs is up 117.2 percent in total betting and that makes Stacy Cahill, general manager of racing operations, extremely pleased.
“We’re certainly off to a strong start this year in total handle,” Cahill says. “You always worry about the weather and the impact of high gas prices, but Scioto’s racing fans have more than doubled their total wagering this year when compared to last year.”
A new simulcasting schedule, she points out, allowed Scioto to benefit from the interest in the thoroughbred Triple Crown races, but trends in live handle at the track are also promising.
“Our live handle has been up in June and we’re hoping that continues for the rest of the summer,” says Cahill.
Scioto Downs races Wednesday through Saturday until closing night on Sept. 13. The track is open for simulcast wagering both day and night seven days a week.(Scioto Downs)
