Hannington wins Pocono feature

Hannington, reined by George Napolitano Jr. and trained by Bill Mullin, won the Monday night featured  race at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. It was a $20,000 claiming pace.

Let go at 8-5 on the odds board, Hannington stopped the timer in 1:52.4, just a fifth of a second off the six-year-old gelding’s life mark.

This was the third win in 21 starts and the first for the William (Bill) Mullin Stable. Hannington was claimed out of the $20,000 claiming race for horses, colts and geldings July 19 by Arthur Blutstein of Monroe Township, N.J., and was starting for the first time under the Mullin banner.

On the season, Hannington now has three wins in 21 starts.Lotta Lightning (Matt Kakaley) finished second in the race with third going to Lindwood Native (Jim Morrill Jr.).

Napolitano Jr., the meet’s leading driver, collected three wins through the first 12 races of the 16-race card.
Spice It Up Lindy, piloted by Mike Simons and trained by Santo Zuzolo, won the sixth race trot with a time of 1:53.3, a new life mark.

This also was the trotter’s third victory in eight starts in 2010.(Pocono)
