The Hanover Shoe Farms-bred Ace Of Pace and Lionness Hanover each won their respective $29,000 divisions of the second leg of New Jersey Sire Stakes (NJSS) action for 2-year-old filly pacers in 1:53 on Friday afternoon's racing program at the Meadowlands. The efforts were a stakes record, lowering by one-fifth of a second the previous mark of 1:53.1 set in 1991 by Emory Girl and equaled in1999 by Ladyjack.

Driven by George Brennan, Ace Of Pace got away second early in the first NJSS split behind Bells Are Ringing, who then yielded the front to Ivana Dance at the opening :27.3 quarter. Sears tipped Ace Of Pace approaching the half and was able to clear before tripping the :54.4 timer.

Reaching three-quarters in 1:24.4, the 1-2 favorite Ace Of Pace drew clear down the stretch to about a three-length victory over Capri Hanover, who rallied off a second-over trip for Ron Pierce. David Miller split horses in deep stretch with Rockonomics to take third.

The win was the second in as many starts for the Mark Ford-trained Ace Of Pace. A daughter of Cam’s Card Shark, Ace Of Pace is out of the The Panderosa mare Whatsupcuz, she a half sister to the $479,000-winning Philos Hanover, the $213,000-winning Pan Hanover, the 2007 Miss New Jersey runner-up and a New Jersey Sire Stakes winner Platinum Hanover, and the 2009 New Jersey Classic winner Passmaster Hanover. She was a $14,000 yearling purchase by Iris and Meir Israel Geller’s Belle Amore Stable of San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Andy Miller settled Lionness Hanover in third early in the second NJSS division as Tim Tetrick took the front with Rocklamation, followed by the Mike Lachance-driven Myluvmuylife. The order in the five-filly field remained unchanged through a :28.2 quarter and :56.2 half, but Miller pulled Lionness Hanover, the strong 9-5 second choice behind favored Rocklamation, heading into the final turn.

Lionness Hanover was able to edge to the lead as the field straightened out for the stretch drive, and although Rocklamation remained game on the inside, the winner prevailed by 1 ¼ lengths. Myluvmylife held for third.

A $60,000 yearling purchase by trainer Steve Elliott, Martha Frank and Carter Racing Stable, Lionness Hanover is a daughter of Western Ideal out of the Cam’s Card Shark mare Ladyking, she a half sister to four $170,000-plus winners, including 2007 Miss New Jersey and 2006 Matron 2-Year-Old Filly Pace winner Current Hanover. Lionness Hanover is a half sister to the $405,000-winning Lookout Hanover.
