The major snowstorm that swept through the Mid Atlantic region dumped in the range of 24 inches in Pennsylvania, creating extra work at racetracks and farms. Jim Simpson, president and CEO of Hanover Shoe Farms in the middle of the state, said the snowfall at the farm ranged from 24-28 inches.

"Our staff has been at this for a long time, so we were able to do what we needed to do," said Simpson. "Our staff was ready for the storm, but they had to bring out equipment that hadn't been used for years."

Simpson said crews kept area roads passable and the electric remained on in the Hanover area, which minimized disruptions.

At The Meadows in western Pennsylvania, electrical power was lost on Saturday and barns were snowed in as crews first worked to clear roads. Generators were used to keep the casino open. On Sunday, snow was removed from the racetrack while clean-up around the barns continued.
